QMK
As I understand it QMK lets you edit firmware directly on your PC and upload it to the keyboard. More powerful but more complicated.
VIA
VIA does what QMK does but through a web site we can load custom JSON for our keyboard. Then we can remap keys, and add macros, etc. All stored on our keyboard so will work with any machine. There is basically a mini computer in our Keyboard that we can control through a web site. Amazing stuff. I don't think I could have adjusted to 75% Layout without it.
Step By Step
- Go to rainy 75 support and DL JSON
- Extract. I will be using the RGB 2.4G Rainy 75-2.4G.JSON
- Go to usevia.com
- Go to "Settings" tab from the top buttons
- Click on "Show Design tab" button
- Go to "Design" tab.
- Upload/load the JSON file (download it from wobkey.com )
- Go to the "Configure" tab
- Click on "+ Authorize Device"
- Now, when you give it the permission, the layers should show up.
- TL;DR you need to upload the JSON before giving it permission from Chrome for it to work.
- Select a Key to remap up top
- It will keep blinking
- Select new function below to assign
- It seems to immediately save to keyboard
Changed from
Top right had
Delete - Home
- End
- Pg Up
- Pg Down
Changed to
Pg Down - Print Screen
- Home
- End
- Delete
This feels more natural to me and more like TKL layout.
