Layers
To use via you first must understand layers. Read this excellent desciption from Keychron
learn about layers.
The keychron has 4 layers unlike the rainy's 2 layers. This is because the keychron has the two way macOS/windows switch on the back.
- 0 - macOS Default
- 1 - macOS - Function Key Pressed
- 2 - windows - Default
- 3 - windows - Function Key Pressed
I am only ever going to use MO(n): Momentarily turn on layer when pressed. That key will be F or Function Key Pressed. switching from macOS to windows is done using two way switch on back of keychron. I have no use for macOS and thanks to via I can custoize macOS to just match what I program for windows. I think we should do this to avoid issues if I hit that switch by mistake. I don't really need or want multiple custom default layouts on a keyboard. When messing with wireless switch I hit this other "mac" switch by mistake all the time. So while some may think this is an advantage to a keyboard I find it annoying.
Modified Layer Maps
I modifed Layer 2 (Windows Keys without Function Key Press) as follows:
Print Screen, Home, End, Delete.
Scroll sheel click is Insert, Scroll is pg up pg down depending on scroll direction.
