PS3 Installation File Formats
Summary
- PS3 iso/jb folder is more involved than older source rom image types
- Besides the Blu Ray ISO source there is always some kind of install to local PS3 HD as well
- The ISO or jb Folder should be thought of more as an install source than the game itself.
- For example Some games ISO's like bioshock can install multiple games to HD and make links in PS3 interface.
- Just launching the Bioshock ISO or JB Folder from rpcs3 will hide Bioshock2.
- A functional XMB (XrossMediaBar) would have been optimal buit that cannot launch games
- The optimal set of shortcuts involves m3u files for launching xmb dashboard items and iso launches.
Questions
DO we still need install source after installed to internal PS3 HD. Probably.

- retrobat ps3 faq
- iso
- jb
iso
- On real PS3 hardware these played/worked the best IMO so I was converting everything back from jail break folder to iso
- iso files can be opened in 7zip and you will see folder contents and can easily convert back to jb folder
- rpcs3 cannot play iso from it's UI
- Retrobat appears to mount the iso before launching rpcs3 on E Drive.
- In some ways this mounting could be an advantage as it means one location to access game bu-ray image source.
jb Folder
- jb (jail break) is just a folder with subfolders nothing more.
- rpcs3 can launc folders directly
- A mounted ISO should be identical to these JS contents.
Retrobat
Retrobat documentation says, Simply copy the game folder to the \roms\ps3 folder of your RetroBat installation and rename the folder with a .ps3 extension.
I tried and ISO and it showed up fine. .ps3 folders on the hand never appear.
Update patches
On the ps3 hardware most games downloaded update patches just like pc games. How are these applied used on emu? Can they be?
PSN Titles
These were never released on disc. Only from psn store on .pkg format.
